Roots Reborn is a Toronto-based ensemble founded by Greek vocalist Stavros Kanichis, with musical direction by clarinetist and composer Majd Sukar. Reimagining the shared folk traditions of the Levant, Middle East, Greece, and the Balkans, the group brings a modern touch to timeless songs – blending authenticity with innovation.
Formed by some of Toronto’s most highly renowned musicians, Roots Reborn bridges the past and present through virtuosic musicianship, soulful improvisations, and intricate rhythms that honour cultural memory while offering fresh interpretation.
